Earlier in the season, Boston Red Sox pitcher Clay Buchholz was accused of using a mixture of sunscreen and rosin to get a better grip on the ball.
Now...it's his teammate Jon Lester who might be under the microscope.
Wednesday night, during Game One of the World Series, the Boston ace was seen going to his glove during the seventh inning and, to some, it appeared as if he was doing something sinister.
"(I'm) not going to make allegations," Melling, a pitcher in the St. Louis Cardinals farm system told The Hall, "but being a pitcher myself and watching over again...sure looks like it to me."
But Melling wasn't the only one that thought Lester's performance was not on the level.
I don't pretend to know what's going on (nor do I want to, really), but is this a "where there's smoke, there's fire" sort of situation...or do we just ignore it and move on to Game Two?
Now theres this. You decide...guilty or no?
(Well done @mattsebek)
You all are just mad your team lost. All pitchers do this. MLB is not investigating. Even tonight on the pre game they laughed cause its fans who are angry. Chill out.
He tapped whatever that is, wiped his pants and the brim of his hat. How in the flying fudge muffin would that improve his grip at all?
All I know is SOMETHING is there and he INTENTIONALLY WHIPED HIS FINGERS ON IT. No one can deny that. And yes, Boston has a history of cheating from pticher Clay Bucholz earlier this year doing the same thing to Coach Billacheat of the Patriots. Just no reason not to when #1 you don't get in serious trouble like Pete Rose who never actually cheated and #2 you have no character or conscience.
sorry to burst your bubble pine tar would look black on a black glove you woulnt even tell at all if there was and vasoline would give off a light brownish and transparent look to a dark glove and the color we are seeing is a flourescent color sorry its neither i agreee with thomas it looks like a mixture of gass and paint. and vasoline would show up light blue under a flourescent bulb just a fyi
Yeah that's not too suspicious huh? Not that the Cards played all that well anyway but if this stuff is going on it's a sad way to try and win a World Series..
@StephenTucker I love when someone calls others "stupid" and they misspell the first word in their post...PRICELESS! The rest is likewise nonsense. Doesn't matter what they "see"---we can clearly all SEE that he did it...it's called video....seriously...you can watch it. As far as the Patriots...this excuse that everyone was doing it is first off a LIE that the guilty use and second he admitted to cheating so there is zero argument. Nice try SPIN AGAIN!
@Tapatio Vaseline isn't applied to help your grip... it's used to lessen it. So when the ball comes out, it has less spin, it moves around more like a knuckle ball.
@Tapatio If it didn't help...then why is the stuff on there? And everything makes a HUGE difference at 90mph. That's why his teammate Bucholz did it earlier in the year. It just is...he's totally busted. Not that it will matter...it's Boston. That's how they roll there.
Looking at the replay, and of course you really cannot see it that great here in the picture, but on the video. It looks to me like a piece of...painted turf...a stuck mixture of green grass with some paint from the World Series banners on the field.
@ThomasRitter and how the hell would a starting pitcher get THAT stuck between the webbing?
